Drawing a comparison from the past two waves of COVID-19, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has also anticipated a surge in the number of cases owing to the ongoing Ganesh festival and the relaxations announced by the state government in the first week of August. Accordingly, the civic body has ramped up the testing and vaccination drive in the city.

On Wednesday, September 15, Maharashtra recorded 3,783 new coronavirus cases and 56 deaths caused by the infection.
