Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in the city of Mumbai have increased significantly and several patients have been admitted across hospitals in the city. Considering the same, the state government and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ave been alerted against the backdrop of increasing cases and to ensure the safety, officials have been asked to make security arrangements on an immediately basis.

However, as per reports, a piece of shocking news has been released. According to the data released by the BMC, over 96% of the patients admitted to the intensive care unit across hospitals in Mumbai have not received any dose of COVID vaccine. Data reveals that more than 1900 patients admitted aross 186 hospitals in Mumbai city suburbs are undergoing treatment on oxygen beds, however, it has come to light that they have not been vaccinated.

Among those vaccinated, Omicton infection has not been identified in the patients admitted in the intensive care unit. This means that if vaccinated, a mild infection or asymptomatic patient is noted.

Observing the same, Mumbai Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal has warned that if the number of patients admitted to the hospital increases and the need for oxygen increases, the lockdown will be imposed immediately. The city has been affected with two waves of COVID-19, and the second wave in 2020 claimed several lives. Many patients suffered due to unavailability of bed and oxygen.

Currently, the number of COVID patients has been on the rise, and the pattern has been observed since December 2021, after these two waves came to an end. Report released by the BMC shows that a total of over 7.62 lakh patients were registered in Mumbai till November 30, 2021. After a month, on January 6, 2022, a total of over 8.53 lakh patients have been registered, which means that in merely one month, the city recorded over 90,928 new COVID patients in Mumbai.
