The situation in the western suburbs has been grim for the past couple of months, however, according to media reports, areas in the northwest of Mumbai which comprises of R (north, south, central) and P (north, south) wards have witnessed a reduction in the number of coronavirus cases.
R north ward includes Dahisar, south ward includes Kandivali and the central includes Borivali. Meanwhile, P north ward includes Malad and the south includes Goregaon. According to a report by Mumbai Mirror, Suresh Kakani, Additional Commissioner of the western suburbs has stated that, over the next four to five days, there will be a receding trend with the number of coronavirus cases. He added that the cases have gone down considerably, with P south witnessing 40 cases every day which has gone down from 83 cases and in P north 100 cases are recorded regularly from a peak of 130.
The reduction in the number of cases of coronavirus has largely been attributed to strict measures like door-to-door screening, rapid antigen tests, fever checks etc. The BMC had earlier launched the 'Mission Zero' rapid action plan at the Shahji Raje Bhosale Complex, in Azad Nagar, Mumbai. Under the programme, 50 mobile dispensary vans visited several parts of Mumbai to conduct a preliminary examination of patients. The 36-day plan was launched on June 22 and focused on areas like Mulund, Bhandup, Dahisar, Borivli, Kandivli and Malad.
Meanwhile, Maharashtra on Thursday reported 6,875 fresh cases of the novel coronavirus, taking the overall tally of confirmed cases to 2,30,599, according to the state health department. That puts the state's figure ahead of South Africa's which, as per global coronavirus tracking portal worldometer, has 2,24,665 cases. In Mumbai, 1,268 people were diagnosed with the coronavirus on Thursday, taking the aggregate to 89,124. Meanwhile, the tally in neighbouring Thane district touched 54,811, while that in Palghar stood at 8,575. Pune so far has 33,394 cases while Nagpur has recorded 1,855 cases of COVID-19.
