Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Aaditya Thackeray has opposed the proposed data centre and internal ring metro project in Thane, citing concerns over their potential environmental impact.
Speaking during a visit to Balkum, Thackeray said the proposed 22-storey data centre is planned across 53 acres and could put additional pressure on the area’s water and power resources. He also raised concerns about noise and heat generated by the facility.
Thackeray claimed that the project would involve the storage of around five lakh litres of diesel, which he said could pose a risk to residents living nearby. He demanded that the data centre be shifted to an MIDC-designated “red zone” and warned that his party would seek to remove the project if it comes to power.
He also criticised the proposed Thane Integral Ring Metro project, arguing that the development could result in the cutting of around 3,500 trees. According to Thackeray, large-scale tree cutting and construction could further damage Thane’s green cover.
Accusing the government of unplanned concretisation in the name of development, Thackeray urged Thane residents to raise their voices against projects that could have long-term environmental consequences.
The opposition comes amid growing concerns among local residents over the impact of the proposed data centre and ring metro on traffic, water resources, trees and the city’s overall environment.
