Advanced Locality Management (ALM) is a group of prominent citizens and activists of each ward that come together and address issues like waste management, illegal constructions, clogged drainage, cleanliness of roads and footpaths, fumigation of localities, encroachment of footpaths, tree trimmings etc. They discuss critical civic issues in the presence of civic ward officials.

In 2017, these resident groups were asked to segregate and compost waste and direct bulk waste generators to do the same. However, former Municipal Commissioner Ajoy Mehta ordered the ALMs but they did not show any interest in the activity and were therefore deregistered.

On Wednesday, May 29, few prominent residents met the new Brihanmumbai Municipal Chief (BMC) Praveen Pardeshi and explained to them the need to restart ALMs as they are the perfect model of good governance.

The authorities are now sending notice to ward officers to ensure that the ALM holds its meeting once every month and are completely functional.
