The Andheri bridge collapse on Tuesday morning disrupted the train services on the western route affecting lakhs of office-goers. Around six people were injured in the incident. The casualty count could have been a lot more if it was not for the presence of mind of Chandrakant Sawant, a motorman operating a Churchgate-bound train.

Like any usual Tuesday morning, a Churchgate-bound train was packed with passengers. When the local train was about to reach Andheri station at 07:15 AM, the motorman operating the train, Chandrakant Sawant spotted the collapse 100 ft. away from the accident spot. Sawant immediately applied the emergency brakes and brought the train to a halt, saving a thousand lives.

Sawant told Mumbai Live that the train came to a stop at quite a safe distance away from the collapsed bridge right after as he applied the emergency brakes.
