In a welcoming news, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) chief Iqbal Singh Chahal recently received approval from the bridge department's to extend the Santacruz-Chembur Link Road (SCLR) upto Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg (LBS Road). However, BMC will be able to operate at LBS junction only after shifting five commercial structures. This extension aims to increase north-south vehicular connectivity.

According to reports by FPJ, Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) had constructed a connector to connect the LBS Road flyover from Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC) Junction to Kalina Junction. However, the bridge from MTNL junction ends 100 meters before reaching LBS, leading to commuters' demand that the bridge be extended to LBS Road and connected to the road leading to Ghatkopar.

The technical consultant appointed by BMC has prepared the design, estimates and draft papers. The estimated project cost is approximately INR 29.38 crore, 11 bidders showed interest. The contract will be awarded to the lowest bidder M/s Bukon Engineers and Infrastructure Pvt. Ltd. Ltd., which quoted 24% less than the estimated cost. The total project cost including taxes and charges is INR 36.48 crores. The work is expected to be completed in 24 months, excluding the monsoon period. But, BMC will have to clear the commercial structures at the LBS junction before issuing the work order.

This bridge will facilitate traffic from Bandra to Ghatkopar via LBS route via MTNL junction at BKC, saving time from three signal junctions. This will assist traffic from Santa Cruz to Ghatkopar via LBS route via SCLR Road, bypassing a signal junction. The length of the bridge will be 246 meters.
