There has been a steady decline in the number of cases from the Mira-Bhayander region after the shutdown was announced. Following this, the Mira Bhayander Municipal Corporation (MBMC) has decided to extend the shutdown till May 3.

MBMC Commissioner Chandrakant Dange said that the second phase shutdown will end on April 28 and the third phase will begin from midnight.

With three cases on Monday, MBMC recorded single-digit coronavirus cases for five days in a row. Another positive thing for the people in this area is the news that 15 people have recovered from the virus and have been discharged.

Earlier in the month, the MBMC had witnessed a sudden rise in the number of COVID-19 cases which grew into double digits before April 20. The rapid growth sent the municipal corporation in a state of frenzy and the MBMC decided to introduce a total shutdown in an attempt to curb the virus from spreading any further . All shops, except pharmacies, were directed to stay closed.

Similarly, in the third phase which began from April 28, all shops have been closed except pharmacies. However, keeping in mind the festival of Ramzan, MBMC has allowed bakeries in the area to remain open between 2:00 am-4:00 am. The municipal corporation has extended the timings for the home delivery of groceries, fruits, and milk. The home delivery can now happen between 9:00 am to 11:00 pm.

The number of positive cases in the MBMC region stood at 145 as of April 27 and 41 of the infected had recovered. So far, two deaths have been reported due to the contagion in Mira-Bhayander area.
