A speeding Brihanmumbai Electric Supply and Transport (BEST) bus struck two pedestrians in Mumbai's Kandivali area on Monday morning, leaving a 24-year-old woman critically injured. The accident is the second involving a BEST bus reported in the city this week, raising fresh concerns about passenger and pedestrian safety.

The incident took place around 11:40 a.m. near the Poisar depot when an electric BEST bus operating on Route A-277/38 was travelling from the Gorai depot. CCTV footage from the area captured the moment the bus hit two pedestrians, identified as Adarsh Hiralal Yadav (24) and Sonam Maurya (24), while they were crossing the road.

Following the accident, the bus conductor rushed both victims to Shatabdi Hospital. Sonam Maurya suffered severe injuries to her head and leg and is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit (ICU). Adarsh Yadav sustained minor injuries to his shoulder and near his right eye.

Police have seized the CCTV footage and launched an investigation to determine the cause of the accident.

The incident occurred just hours after another serious BEST bus crash near Dadar railway station, where a bus rammed into five vehicles on a busy road, killing one person and injuring five others. CCTV visuals from that accident showed the bus speeding before crashing into multiple vehicles. The impact left the bus severely damaged, with its windscreen shattered.

The back-to-back accidents have once again brought the safety record of BEST buses under scrutiny. In recent years, several similar incidents have sparked concerns over alleged technical faults, including sudden brake failures.

Last year, four people were killed when a BEST bus reversed into pedestrians in Bhandup. In another incident, an elderly woman lost her life after being run over by a BEST bus in Mulund. A food delivery executive was also crushed to death in a similar accident in Prabhadevi last April.

Authorities are continuing their investigations into the latest incidents.
