Birthdays and the BMC’s blind eye to banners
Sewri- Cocking a snook at the electoral code of conduct appears to come easy to political parties.
The latest flagrant violation seems to have come from the Republican Party of India, led by Ramdas Athavale. The minister has a legion of fans among the party cadres, and the affection is now overflowing on to the streets, literally. Athavale celebrated his birthday a few days ago, but the party continues to put up a banner wishing him a happy birthday on a BEST bus stop. The banner has been put up by Yuva ward chief Om Hemant Sawant wishing RPI chief Ramdas Athawale on his birthday at Sewri’s Ahmed Kidwai road and promoting his ward no. 200. The banner has been up for 23 days.
Sceptics say the civic administration has failed to pull down the banner because of the tacit pact between the BJP and the RPI.
