On Monday, September 13, a video went viral wherein a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) beach clean-up marshal was beaten by a few citizens in Juhu. The person even threw away the marshal's phone.

The marshal had reportedly asked a person to pay a fine for not wearing the mask.

In the viral video, one can see that the person without a face mask was beating him. The person was later joined by other citizens. However, in the video, the man claimed that initially, it was the marshal who hit him.

As per reports, the marshal approached the person asking him to pay a fine after clicking a photograph of the person for not wearing a mask.

He straightaway wore the mask, but after seeing the evidence, he turned violent and started beating the marshal.

Addressing the media about the issue, a civic official from the solid waste department of the ward said that they take a photograph of a person as a piece of evidence. If not, a person will not pay the fine, denying that they did not wear a mask.

Those not wearing a mask are charged Rs.200 by the marshals.

The office of the K-west ward of BMC has told that they will lodge a police complaint.
