Mumbai's K/East-West Ward Collects Highest Property Tax So Far

It is only half of its total targeted property tax of INR 4,500 crore for this fiscal year. Therefore, with just few days left, the BMC has appealed the citizens to pay their property tax.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC)’s the assessment and collection department on Wednesday, March 27, revealed that the civic body has collected INR 2,213 crore through property tax in the current fiscal.

It is only half of its total targeted property tax of INR 4,500 crore for this fiscal year. Therefore, with just few days left, the BMC has appealed the citizens to pay their property tax.

In an official statement released, the BMC said that the highest chunk of over INR 208 crore was collected from K/East ward, followed by K/West ward (INR 174.15 crore), S ward (INR 170.77 crore) and H/East ward (INR 168.34 crore).

Of the total amount, INR 9.51 crore property tax was collected from the government-owned properties.

Property tax is the second largest source of revenue for the BMC with the civic body generating an income of INR 4994.15 crore from property taxes in financial year 2022- 23.

Among the top 10 property owners whom the department pursued for collection of the tax was a private company from the S ward in the eastern suburbs.

The property tax bill of the company was INR 49.12 crore, followed by another company from G-south ward in the city having INR 20.84 crore property tax bill.
