The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Monday, June 13, has published the much-awaited final reservation of 236 electoral administrative wards for the forthcoming civic election.

It is pertinent to note that the civic body has not made a single change in the final electoral ward reservation draft. It will soon be published in the gazette.

However, this development came after the Supreme Court (SC) order on May 4, the State Election Commission (SEC) directed BMC to conduct further process of election.

With this, the BMC has completed both the delimitation and reservation process for each seat. Now, preparation of the electoral list for each of the corporator wards is left now. This exercise should be completed by July 7 with the final voters list being published.

Therefore, the suggestions and objections window was open till June 6. The suggestions and objections can be raised in case any area is left out of the electoral list.

For those unversed, accordingly, on May 30, BMC had conducted an electoral ward reservation lottery at Rangsharda auditorium at Bandra wherein 118 wards were kept reserved for women candidates, 15 seats were reserved for scheduled castes and 2 seats for scheduled tribes. Among 15, eight seats will be reserved for ST women candidates and one seat for SC women candidates.

Later, the civic body invited suggestions and objections over ward reservations. It received over 232 suggestions and objections. After considering them, the BMC announced the final list of ward reservations without any changes.

Meanwhile, opposition party has condemned the BMC and entire process of suggestion and objection.
