On Wednesday, in light of gearing for the anticipated third wave, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has decided to take its contact tracing up a notch. Whilst it earlier traced 15 people, it has now decided to trace 20 of those associated with the person who tested positive.

Based on a report by The Indian Express, a review meeting was held on Wednesday to lay the plan of action for the expected third wave. Considering that several restrictions have been eased in the city, the authority has also decided to augment the number of RT-PCR and rapid antigen tests conducted.

According to the account, nearly 15 close contacts of the infected are traced at present. A senior civic official has stated that the ward officers have been informed to ramp the contact tracing to 20. Not only will this help them keep the infection in check, but will also help them understand the speed with which the virus is spreading. This becomes especially important now, with things being opened up.

Officials have also paid heed to the caution received from experts regarding the harsh impact of the third wave on children and have thus decided to train its workforce in ward war rooms for the same, claims the report.

From increasing the bed capacity at hospitals, to new jumbo COVID-19 centres being set up, the city is gearing for the third wave.
