BMC to soon have a 'Tourism Department'

Tourism and Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray recently stated that he is in talks with the civic authorities for having a Tourism Department in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

After implementing the Mumbai 24x7 initiative across the city, the Tourism and Environment Minister Aditya Thackeray stated that he is in talks with the civic authorities including Municipal Commissioner Praveen Pardeshi to set up a 'Tourism Department' in the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). Further, he also mentioned that the state department will be providing funds to the Tourism Department. 

The funds are likely to give impetus to the civic body’s existing projects such as restoration and beautification of heritage precincts, beautification of beaches, upgradation and expansion of Byculla Zoo and a cycle track along the Tansa pipeline.

The BMC will also be chalking out a plan to welcome tourists in its iconic headquarters, which is also a heritage building and is situated near Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT).  This building will be open to tourists only on Saturday and Sunday and there will be guided tours organised for the same.  

Apart from this, the current state government is looking at ways through which they can boost the tourism in the state.
