Mumbai recorded 13 wall collapse and 21 waterlogging incidents on Tuesday

The eastern suburbs received the highest rainfall and witnessed waterlogging at five spots in the last two days

Mumbaikars got no respite from incessant rains on Tuesday as the city recorded 13 incidents of wall or house collapses while 21 spots were waterlogged between 7:00 PM on July 2 and 3:00 PM on July 3. No injuries were reported in any of the incidents. 

The eastern suburbs received the highest amount of rainfall, according to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) sources. While four of them were reported in the city, five in the eastern suburbs and four in the western suburbs. Areas like Hindmata, Parel TT, Sion, Bhoiwada, Dharavi, Chunabhatti, Chembur, Vikhroli, Bhandup, Sakinaka, Andheri, Dindoshi and Jogeshwari witnessed flooding.

The Andheri subway was waterlogged as the stormwater drains were blocked by sacks of sand that fell from the bridge. The water level in the subway came down after the sacks were cleared from the way.

To ensure that there is no waterlogging in the eastern suburbs, the civic body stated that they had equipped five locations in the city prone to waterlogging with extra powerful pumps (100 m3/ hour). BMC has six pumping stations functional and along with placing 177 pumps in various locations, three additional municipal commissioners at the western suburbs and eastern suburbs were deployed to keep a tab on the problems. 750 officers and 5,300 staff members were also present on ground in coordination.
