To ensure that thousands of protesters who have arrived in Mumbai to demand Maratha reservation are not inconvenienced, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has made about 400 toilets available in Azad Maidan and the surrounding areas. 

Also, manpower and the latest machinery have been deployed for cleaning the toilets. The civic body has appealed to keep these toilets clean and in a condition suitable for use by others. Meanwhile, the municipality has also made 25 tankers of drinking water available.

The protest led by Maratha leader Manoj Jarange has been going on since Friday at Azad Maidan in Mumbai. On the first day, the protesters faced inconvenience as toilets, restaurants, and food shops were closed. Therefore, the protesters directly criticised Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and the BMC. S

Subsequently, the Municipal Corporation provided drinking water, free toilets, and health facilities that same night. However, the protesters again expressed their strong displeasure as the number of toilets was comparatively very less compared to the number of toilets provided by the protesters. The municipality has since increased the number of toilets.

Currently, the BMC has provided 400 toilets, and all of them are being continuously cleaned by the civic body employees. Also, 5 suction and jetting plants have been deployed to clean 350 portable and 50 protest site toilets. Meanwhile, a total of 25 tankers of drinking water have also been made available for the protesters. Water is being supplied by filling tankers from the nearest filling station as per the requirement. Continuous fumigation is being done to prevent the spread of insects and mosquitoes in the field area. A total of 6 teams are working for this purpose.

577 protesters availed medical facilities

A 24-hour medical aid room is functioning at the protest site. Thousands of protesters have availed of this service. A total of 577 protesters availed medical facilities on a single day. Also, some patients have been asked to go to the nearest hospital for further medical treatment due to various reasons. Adequate stock of medicines has also been made available for the medical aid room.
