After the first case of COVID-19 was reported from Dharavi, the officials from the BMC and the police have been on alert to ensure that the spread of the virus isn't extensive. But just a day after that, another COVID-19 case has come to the forefront, where a 52-year-old person, who resides at Worli’s Jijamata Nagar has developed symptoms in Dharavi.

The patient is said to be a worker with the BMC and this marks the second case from these slums. The first case was reported on April 1, 2020, but the patient died soon after while receiving the treatment.

The new case of a 52-year-old is about a Worli resident, which has also become the hotspot for the virus outbreak in Mumbai. The man in question was working in Dharavi on Monday while he had developed symptoms and was soon relieved from his duties. Upon testing, his results showed positive and now he is being treated at Mumbai's Seven Hills Hospital.

All his 23 co-workers are now under home quarantine and may soon be tested.

In a recently released statement,  Kiran Dighavkar, assistant municipal commissioner of G North ward, said, “We do not know if the person contracted the virus in Worli or Dharavi. Since the first Dharavi patient was tested positive a week after he developed symptoms, it is possible that the sweeper contracted it in Dharavi. His co-workers are under home quarantine.”

In his daily media address, Lav Agrawal, Joint Secy, Health Ministry, talking about COVID-19 positive case found in Mumbai' Dharavi area said, "In the particular colony, the building has been sealed and sample collection of all residents of the building is underway. As per protocol, contact tracing is underway".
