Mumbai’s civic body, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), has reportedly been taking several measures in order to prevent the instances of coronavirus cases in Mumbai.

According to sources, 995 buildings along with 10,859 floors have been sealed where five or more positive COVID-19 cases have been found. Moreover, there are 90 containment zones across the city. Of these, 3.85 lakh residents in 85,000 households are under restraint.

Among the slums, Kandivali, Andheri East and Byculla have the highest number of containment zones. It has 20, 13 and 13 containment zones respectively. Meanwhile, there are seven containment zones each in Dahisar, Kurla and six in Bhandup.

The civic body of Mumbai has been sealing societies and buildings with five or more COVID-19 cases since the outbreak of the second wave of coronavirus. In addition, the entry of visitors has been barred. Furthermore, residents, too, are not allowed to leave the premises. As per reports, in order to ensure there is no violation of the COVID-19 norms, which is likely to cause further spread of the virus, police are reportedly keeping guard at some of these societies.

On the other hand, earlier on Thursday, April 15, Maharashtra recorded 61,695 fresh cases of coronavirus taking the COVID-19 tally of the state to 36,39,855. At present, there are 6,20,060 active cases in the state. With 53,335 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered patients soared to 29,59,056. Moreover, in the last 24 hours, Mumbai recorded 8,217 cases in the day as it remains a major novel coronavirus hotspot in the state.
