According to a latest data revealed, the Byculla Zoo, also known as Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan and Rani Baug, saw a footfall of over 14k visitors last week.
Almost after a month of its reopening, the zoo has managed to make the count to the pre-COVID-19 times. As per the authorities, penguin chicks, tigers and hyenas are the crowd-pullers to the zoo.
On an average, the zoo is witnessing 5-6k visitors daily during weekdays, while it increases to 10-12k over the weekend. With this, it is estimated that visitor count is on par with pre-COVID-19 times.
Meanwhile, the management of the zoo said that on last Sunday, around 14k visitors were witnessed. However, they were expecting such a positive sign.
According to the official data, between November 1 and 22, the zoo recorded a footfall of 1,25,702 visitors resulting in revenue of ₹5,096,450.
Besides, as the number of sightseer increases, security remains a concern. An official stated that they have increased the security arrangements and also requested people to maintain queue while visiting the zoo.
Moreover, the zoo is likely to get two pairs of lions in the zoo by next year that will become another major attraction among the visitors.
Byculla Zoo was reopened for the general public on November 1, 2021, after being shut from April this year amid a rise in the coronavirus, which led to the second wave.
