Nearly five companies of 500 personnel from Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) have been deployed in Mumbai on Sunday night.

After the demand made by the Maharashtra government earlier, nine companies of Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) have been deployed in various parts of the state including Mumbai and Pune. They have been deployed in the worst-hit districts in Maharashtra due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Recently, the Maharashtra government requested the central government to deploy 20 companies (2,000 personnel) of the Central Armed Police Force with a purpose to provide rest to the overworked police personnel in the state.

While talking to reporters, Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh informed that the CAPF companies sent by the centre have come to the state and have been deployed in Mumbai, Pune, Malegaon, Amravati and other places to ensure that the police personnel in the state get some rest.

On Saturday, the Union Home Ministry ordered the withdrawal of 10 CAPF companies from Jammu and Kashmir and sent nine units to Maharashtra which has been the worst-hit state in India due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh had said that the state police have been working “day in and out” to contain the spread of the coronavirus or COVID-19. Many state police personnel have also been tested positive for COVID-19 while discharging their duties.

The Eid is around the corner and proper law and order have to be maintained. It was also time for them to rest and recuperate, Deshmukh said. Thirty-two companies of the CRPF have already been deployed in Maharashtra and are working in coordination with the state police.
