The Thane Municipal Corporation has initiated extensive preparations for the upcoming census process. In this regard, phased training of field trainers and pilot implementation of house listing have begun. Additional Commissioner II, Prashant Rode, stated that this process is being carried out in a well-planned manner across various wards of the city.

For this work, a total of 78 field trainers have been appointed under nine ward committees, out of which 39 trainers were trained in the first session. Training sessions were conducted from April 6 to April 8, 2026, between 9:00 AM and 6:00 PM in the Majiwada-Manpada, Uthalsar, Lokmanya-Savarkar, and Vartak Nagar wards. Subsequently, from April 9 to April 11, 2026, trainers from Wagle Estate, Naupada-Kopri, Kalwa, Mumbra, and Diva areas will be trained.

In this context, a pilot house listing exercise was conducted in the Uthalsar ward. Through this initiative, efforts are being made to identify potential challenges during the actual census and to make the process more efficient and effective.

After completing the training, these field trainers will provide detailed training to enumerators and supervisors in their respective wards. This is expected to ensure that the entire census chain functions effectively.

This year, a digital system will be used for the census, and house listing will be conducted through the HLO (House Listing Operation) app. Around 33 questions related to households will be recorded in this app, including details such as ownership of the house, name of the owner, type of house, and availability of facilities like TV, refrigerator, flooring, mobile phone, etc.

Additionally, for the convenience of citizens, a self-enumeration facility will be available from May 1 to May 15. Citizens can log in to the census portal and fill in their own information. After submission, each citizen will receive a unique code, which they must provide to the enumerator visiting their home to complete the house listing process.

Following the self-enumeration phase, the actual census process will begin from May 16. During this stage, enumerators will visit households to verify and collect information.

Overall, the Thane Municipal Corporation is taking concrete steps to make the census process more transparent, accurate, and technology-driven. Sachin Borse, Assistant Commissioner and Nodal Officer of the Census Department, expressed confidence that the campaign will be successful with active participation from citizens.
