Mumbai faced heavy rainfall for the fifth straight day, leading to flooding in nearly half of the city. Due to the continuous downpour and high tide, water entered homes and shops.

Streets were flooded, causing vehicles to get stuck and major traffic jams. In some places, BEST buses stopped working after water entered their engines.

Many people who stepped out for important work in the morning had to wade through knee-deep water. Due to poor drainage and failure of BMC’s monsoon preparations, people criticised the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

In response, BMC has issued a helpline number to assist citizens during this crisis. The rain has been continuous since midnight on August 20 and has badly affected daily life, even though train and BEST bus services are mostly running.

The BMC control room is monitoring the situation, and citizens have been asked to call 1916 for help or verified information. Officials also warned people to not believe in rumours.

“BMC is alert and fully prepared to take emergency action. Citizens should not fall for false information. For any emergency or official updates, call the BMC’s disaster helpline at 1916,” the administration said.
