Coronavirus Pandemic: Mumbai records 15 deaths on Monday

On Monday, April 27, as many as 15 people in Mumbai died because of COVID-19 complication. This is the second-highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a single day. With this, the death toll in the Mumbai reached 219. In the last couple of weeks, the number of deaths in the city has doubled. Prior to this the highest mortality rate for a day was recorded on April 12 when 16 patients had died.

Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded 369 new cases of COIVD-19 or coronavirus Monday, taking the city's tally of COVID-19 patients to 5,776. Maharashtra is one of the worst impacted states in the country. On Monday, 552 fresh novel coronavirus cases were recorded in the state, and with that the total count shot past 8,500-mark . As per the state health officials, the total number of cases in Maharashtra with the addition of Monday figures stood at 8,590. 

Coming back to the fatalities on Monday, BMC informed that the latest victims include eight men and seven women. 10 of them had other complications such as diabetes or hypertension or asthma. The data by civic body further revealed that three were below 40 years, eight were in the age group of 40 to 60, and four were above 60 years.

Mumbai's COVID-19 fatality rate at present stands at 3.7 per cent as compared to the state's 4.2 per cent. However, 79 per cent of the deaths across the state have been recorded from Mumbai. A state-appointed expert committee is examining the issue and is also entrusted with the task of reducing the city’s mortality rate.

On the brighter side, 118 patients were discharged on Monday. With this the total number of recovered patients in Mumbai stands at 1,015.

In the meantime, the first COVID-19 patient in the state to undergo plasma therapy is being monitored at Lilavati Hospital. The 53-year-old man had received plasma on Saturday evening and still continues to be in critical condition and on ventilator support, but the doctors have said that his health has not deteriorated any further.
