Mumbai logs lowest deaths in 6 months, 939 recover

Mumbai reported 746 new COVID-19 cases, taking its tally to 2,59,860 on Tuesday, while the death toll reached 10,320 with the addition of 15 more cases. Also, this is the second straight day on which the city has reported less than 800 cases.

On Monday, the city had witnessed 706 new cases. According to the data shared by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), the number of recovered COVID-19 patients reached 2,31,541 with 939 more people getting discharged from hospitals on Tuesday. The rate of recovery for Mumbai now stands at 89 per cent rate. Currently, 17,444 patients are getting treatment. Furthermore, the number of COVID-19 tests done in the city stood at 15.56 lakh.

According to the BMC, the city's average doubling rate of COVID-19 cases now stands at185 days, while the average growth rate is 0.38 per cent, which is lower than the what was recorded in the past two months. At present, the city has 6,416 sealed buildings and 541 containment zones in slums and chawls. The civic body declares containment zones and seal buildings on finding at least one or more COVID-19 case.

On the other hand, the COVID-19 active cases in Mumbai's Dharavi slum dropped below 100 on Tuesday. The overall tally in the slum area increased to 3,568 with the addition of six new cases on Tuesday. The slum dominated area, which is spread across 2.5 square km and has a population of more than 6.5 lakh, has only 96 active COVID-19 cases at present. In Dadar, only two new COVID-19 cases were reported, taking the total figures to 4,354. Meanwhile, the tally of COVID-19 cases in Mahim climbed to 4,098 with two more cases. On a positive note, 3,609 patients have been cured. Now there are 351 active cases in the area. Overall, the G/North Ward, which includes Dharavi, Mahim, and Dadar, registered 10 new cases on Tuesday which is the lowest to date in the ward itself, and with this, the total number of cases in the ward reached 12,020.
