Setting an example of being an ideal boss, the north region additional commissioner of Mumbai Police has extended a helping hand to the policemen's families. Amid the 21-day lockdown, the police force is extremely stressed out and taking that into consideration, Additional CP Dilip Sawant has started a phone service for policemen's families.

A dedicated mobile number has been circulated amongst the personnel and the phone service will always have someone on call 24x7. The service will ensure that whatever the policemen's families need, right from food to medicine, is delivered to them with just a simple call. A family member can simply call on this number and a police team will help them.

Sawant told Mid-Day, "We have deployed some officers and formed a separate team who will only work to help police families in this crisis."

He added that he has been seeing that policemen were constantly on the road since the lockdown was announced and realised that their families were helpless. He said that when he heard that most families were unable to access food, medicines and other essentials, he decided to assist them by starting the new mobile service.

The service was started this Sunday and so far, they have received a tremendous response. Once the call is made, the team drops off essentials to the families at their homes.

"We have been receiving calls for groceries, medicines, etc and are providing this service 24x7. Last night, a police family called to say they were unable to get wheat in the area, so we got it delivered to them. We also received a message from the pregnant wife of a policeman who needed help with groceries," Sawant added.

With the lockdown in place, Sawant said that all leaves of the police personnel had been cancelled as the entire force was deployed on the roads.
