According to sources, the number of COVID-19 patients in Dharavi, Dadar and Mahim has increased by 79 in the last 24 hours.

Till Monday, March 22, 16 patients suffering from the coronavirus were registered in Dharavi, 29 in Dadar, 44 in Mahim. In May 2020, Dharavi had a large number of patients testing positive for COVID-19 due to which Dharavi was widely considered to be the hotspot for the coronavirus.

However, BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, who took over the post of Municipal Commissioner at that time, immediately visited Dharavi the next day and took strict measures in order to contain the spread of the disease. Moreover, Kiran Dighavkar, Assistant Commissioner, G/North, also managed to control the outbreak of coronavirus in the areas of Dharavi, Dadar and Mahim divisions.

On the other hand, Maharashtra witnessed a dip of over 5,000 daily COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours with 24,645 persons testing positive for the novel coronavirus. On Monday, March 22, the state's COVID-19 tally rose to 25,04,327. At present, there are 2,15,241 active cases in the state. With 19,463 COVID-19 patients discharged in the day, the number of recovered patients soared to 22,34,330.

In addition, so far, 1,84,62,030 samples have been tested for COVID-19 in labs operational across the state. While 10,63,077 persons are under home quarantine, 11,092 others have been admitted to institutional quarantine centres. Meanwhile, the positivity rate, recovery rate and fatality rate for the coronavirus in Maharashtra stand at 13.56 per cent, 89.22 per cent and 2.13 per cent respectively.
