Central Railway (CR) conducts intensive ticket checking in Suburban, Mail Express, Passenger services, and special trains across all divisions to curb ticketless and irregular travel in order to provide comfortable travel and better services to all bonafide rail users. Senior Officers are closely monitoring the revenue loss due to ticketless travel and such other irregularities.

During the current FY 2023-24 for month of September-2023), a total of 3.08 lakh cases of ticketless/irregular travel and unbooked luggage were detected in the month of September 2023, ticket checking revenue was ₹17.31 Crore.

Central Railway appeals to the passengers to travel with proper and valid railway tickets in order to avoid inconvenience and travel with dignity.

Moreover, CR has kept its momentum of giving its best performance in commercial revenue consistent.

During the first 6 Months of the current financial year i.e., from April to September 2023-24 Central Railway registered revenue of INR 8568.41 Crores as against revenue of INR 7395.18 Crores which is 15.86% more compared to the same period.        

During the September -2023 Central Railway registered Freight revenue of INR 609.50 Crores as against revenue of INR 571.05 Crores which is 6.73 % more compared to the same period.        

During the September-2023 Central Railway registered Passenger Revenue of INR 574.43 Crores as against revenue of INR 527.78 Crores which is 8.84 % more compared to the same period.

During the September-2023 Other Coaching Revenue INR 65.06 Crores as against revenue of INR 63.71 Crores which is 2.12 % more compared to the same period (Other coaching revenue means Parcel Revenue etc.)

During the September-2023 Sundry Revenue INR 33.31 Crores as against revenue of INR 37.08 Crores which is -10.17 % less compared to the same period. Sundry Earnings means revenue from Non-Fare Revenue, (NFR), Parking, Catering, Retiring rooms etc.

The increase in revenue is attributed to the various initiatives taken by Central Railway such as setting up of Business Development Units (BDUs) o­n Divisions and various non-fare revenue initiatives and at Headquarters office for intensive marketing and other similar innovative ideas to boost the earnings.
