Central Railway (CR) in its endeavour to provide better facilities to passengers has entered into a significant partnership with DMart Foundation to enhance the sanitation facilities at various stations. The latest development in this regard has been proposal to construct / renovate / operate / maintain toilet blocks at Thane and Kalyan stations.
A Memorandum of Understanding will be entered into by Mumbai Division of CR and DMart Foundation for construction, upgradation and maintenance of the toilet blocks at Thane and Kalyan stations for a period of 5 years as part of their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives.
As per the MOU, DMart Foundation will:
•Construct one new toilet block on Platform 6/7 at Kalyan station (Karjat end)
•Construct one new toilet block on Platform 10A at Thane station
•Repair / operate / maintain all toilet blocks at Thane and Kalyan stations
•No charges for using toilets (urinals or lavatories) will be collected from passengers at both these stations.
Presently Thane station has a total of 61 urinals, 28 lavatories, 16 wash basins and Kalyan station has a total of 54 urinals, 20 lavatories, 18 wash basins. All these will be maintained by DMart Foundation.
With a heavy footfall of 5.10 lakh passengers at Thane and 3.93 lakh passengers at Kalyan,
This move will ensure provision of high standard, hygienic toilets for the benefit of passengers at no cost.
Central Railway and D Mart Foundation have already collaborated for the maintenance of toilet blocks at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus, Byculla and Ghatkopar stations and the response of passengers is very encouraging.
Central Railway is optimistic that this proactive step will not only enhance the overall passenger experience but also contribute to a positive and hygienic atmosphere at these stations.
Central Railway encourages passengers to take advantage of the improved and well-maintained restroom facilities. At the same time Central Railway also appeals to its passengers to be responsible by using the facilities provided with care and be vigilant towards any elements attempting to break or destroy these provisions and in such cases inform the Station Manager or on duty RPF on on duty railway employee.
Central Railway looks forward to receiving valuable feedback that will further contribute to the enhancement of services in future.
