Dharavi Asia’s largest slum which has more than 6 lakh people living in the congested area recorded 10 new cases of coronavirus on Friday taking the total number of cases in the area to 2,438.

According to a report in The Times of India, an official of the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said that there are currently 102 actives cases in Dharavi and more than 2 thousand patients have been discharged after recovering from coronavirus. 43 cases were reported in Dadar and 14 in Mahim on Friday.

Amidst the constant rise in the number of coronavirus cases in different areas of Mumbai and parts of Maharashtra, the number of cases in Dharavi has always been a matter of concern for the authorities as with such a large number of people living there it was important to contain the spreading of the virus in this area.

Last week the World Health Organisation (WHO) had appreciated the efforts taken by the authorities in order to make sure that the spreading of the virus is contained in Dharavi.

The total number of coronavirus cases in Mumbai stands at 99,164 and Maharashtra has recorded more than 2.9 lakh cases with 8,308 cases on Friday.
