BMC demolishes slums in Geeta Nagar

Slums on the Abhishek nullah were razed on Thursday. K/west officials initiated the drive and over 54 slums were damaged in the process. Near the nullah is Geeta Nagar which houses unauthorised slums from past 10 years. Around 107 illegal construction works were in process. The notice was sent regarding the demolition, but 30 slum owners appealed for the stay order in the court. Out of 107 slums, 54 were demolished on Thursday.

Prashant Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner K/West ward informed that rest 53 slums will undergo demolition on Friday. This was initiated in order to widen the path of Abhishek nullah. 6 m road will be opened for the transport very soon further stated Gaikwad.
