Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has sent a notice and directed to cut off the electricity supply of about 1693 houses situated in Bandra East. The reason behind sending the notice is that the government buildings are around 50 years old and have recently developed a lot of cracks which is a matter of concern.

Revenue and Public Works Minister, Chandrakant Patil had informed about this. Patil says that the condition of these buildings is so poor that if any accident takes place, the government won’t take any responsibility for the mishap.

The government had already ordered the residents to evacuate their flats for a long time. In 2016, Public Works Minister Chandrakant Patil conducted a survey of the colony and had given necessary funds to improve the conditions of the existing buildings. However, the proper material wasn’t used to fix the conditions which resulted in the cracks. Along with this, now the responsible officials will be investigated.

The work of redevelopment of these buildings has been discussed with a Korean company. Patil said that a proposal for giving the government officials a temporary residence in co-operative societies is put forward and the government is pondering upon the decision.
