Exclusive interview with Ashwini Bhide on the Mumbai metro project

In an exclusive interview with Mumbai Live, Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation’s (MMRC) managing director Ashwini Bhide spoke about the Metro project and how it will help Mumbaikars in the next few years.

Talking about the cost and development, she said that the total cost of the project is around INR 23 cr and is expected to complete by 2021. The 33.5 km long fully underground corridor will be connecting Colaba- Bandra- Seepz.

Adding more to the same, she said that the main aim of the project is to provide a rail-based MRT system to people residing in areas, which are not connected by suburban rail system and to bring the metro system within reach of 500m to 1 km. The new Mumbai metro is being constructed with the help of 2 new machines - tunnel boring machines and new Austrian tunneling method, with which the work will be done in an easier manner, without harming the buildings.
