On Tuesday, a Walmart run e-commerce giant mentioned that it is looking to create, 4,000 jobs in Maharashtra. They look to do this by commencing four new facilities, stated a report by the PTI.

Bhiwandi and Nagpur’s fulfilment and sortation centres are mainly intended to assist the local sellers in the state along with catering to the rise in demand for e-commerce, elucidated a statement.

Additionally, the facilities span over 7 lakh sq feet and are anticipated to produce 4,000 direct as well as indirect job opportunities. Apart from this, it will also offer a platform for the local sellers to tap into the national market, stated the account.

Looking from a supply chain perspective, Maharashtra has been categorized as an important centre by the e-commerce giant. Taking into consideration the latest extensions and enlargements, the company is said to have an aggregate of 12 supply chain facilities in Maharashtra. These facilities span over 23 lakh square feet area, which helps curate over 20,000 direct and indirect employment avenues.

The statement further broached that fresh investments will assist in backing the rise in consumer demand for e-commerce in Maharashtra. Similarly, it will sustain the developing seller milieu and promote the local economy. It was stated that over the last year, sellers in the state have risen by 30%.

Subhash Desai, the state’s Industries Minister, has welcomed this investment move by Flipkart in Maharashtra.
