As Mumbai received heavy rainfall, a landslide was reported at the Malabar Hills for the second time this year.

The landslide occurred near Khareghat colony, near Babulnath, causing massive damage to the residential houses. Even though no loss of life was reported, soil broke through the window and entered several households.

As per reports, there are six flats in the building and, except the one flat that is damaged, all other residents are back in the building. There are several buildings in the colony, all of which are more than 80 years old.

Moreover, soil samples have been taken for inspection. A few days ago, the hill was also surveyed with the help of a drone. However, due to the rains, the hill is covered with trees. So the condition of the hill could not be understood fully. Municipal officials are waiting for the rains to subside after which a decision will be taken about the construction of roads after conducting a study on the area.

The rains which lashed the streets of Mumbai on Tuesday intensified in the evening. It rained heavily for about 3 hours. As a result, many low-lying areas were flooded. In addition, the local trains had been disrupted due to waterlogging on the railway tracks. Long queues of vehicles were also reported to be on the streets.
