In recent developments, on Tuesday, August 24, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be visiting Mumbai for two days to meet key stakeholders.

According to reports, the Union Minister will start the day with a meeting with officials from the Income Tax department in the Bandra Kurla Complex business district. Moreover, she is to conduct deliberations on the indirect tax side by meeting officials from the goods and services tax and customs department.

In addition, the Union Finance Minister is also touted to meet industry leaders in a gathering organised by lobby grouping CII. Since the outbreak of the coronavirus, this happens to be the first time Sitharaman is to visit the city when a greater focus is on the government for aiding recovery because high inflation constrains the RBI.

On the other hand, earlier on Monday, August 23, the Finance Minister had called on Infosys CEO and MD Salil Parekh to convey 'deep disappointment and concerns' over continued glitches in the company's new Income Tax portal.

Meanwhile, the much-touted IT portal has been continuously flagged over technical issues, even after two and half months of its launch. In the meeting, FM Sitharaman gave Salil Parekh a deadline of September 15 to resolve all the issues.
