In an animal exchange programme, Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani has approved the proposal to provide a pair of the lions to Mumbai and Punjab each. This programme has been initiated with the aim to introduce diverse forest and animal estate.

One pair of the lion will be transferred to Mumbai’s Veermata Jijabai Bhosale Udyan (or Rani Baug) from Junagadh's Sakkarbaug Chidiyaghar, soon. In return, the Mumbai zoo will provide Junagadh's zoo with the two pairs of Zebra, Cocktail Grey, Cocktail White, and four pairs of Night Aron along with one female hornbill.

Earlier on April 28, the new guests including a leopard and a pair of jackal were brought from Mangalore's Pilikula Zoo to the Rani Baug Zoo. The animals will be available for display from the month of June.
