Mumbai may receive more rainfall on October 8

Apart from the unexpected rainfall over the last weekend, there has not been much rain activity in and around Mumbai for some time now. However, this may well change as there is a forecast of rainfall over the next couple of days.

Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast moderate to heavy rains in Mumbai, Thane and East Vidarbha in the next 2-3 days. In the last 24 hours, it rained sparsely in Konkan, Goa, Central Maharashtra and Vidarbha. However, the weather in Marathwada was dry. 

There is a possibility of thundershowers and rain in Vidarbha region on October 8. Moreover, it is expected that it may rain along with lightening Konkan, Goa and other places in central Maharashtra on October 9. Whereas on October 10, there is a possibility of rain with thunder and lightning in Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Marathwada.

The monsoon has started to recede from India and these post Monsoon rains are normal for this time of the year. However, the rain that Mumbai received on October 3 and October 4 was the second-highest rainfall that it had got in a 24-hour span in the month of October. By Sunday morning 8:30 am, the Santacruz weather had recorded 55.8mm rain over 24 hours, while the Colaba weather observatory, recorded 15mm rain.

As per IMD's forecast, Mumbai will remain to be cloudy on October 7 and October 8. The humidity level was really high on Tuesday evening and there could be a relief in-store and chances of mild showers on October 8.
