Mumbai has been witnessing rains spells for the past few days. As far as heavy rains are concerned, the city has not received heavy rains in the past week or so.

However, with Cyclone Gulab crossing the coast and weakening into a depression moving in a westerly direction, Mumbai is all set to see some heavy rainfall activities today, September 28. Moreover, not only Mumbai but other parts of Maharashtra including the Konkan region and the Madhya Maharashtra region will also see some moderate to heavy showers on Tuesday, September 28 and Wednesday, September 29.

According to Skymet, heavy to very heavy rains are a possibility in Mumbai today, but these hefty rainfall activities are not expected to stay for long and will only continue for 24 hours or so. After that Mumbai is expected to receive rain but more on the light to moderate side.

This means heavy rainfall is likely to continue in the city till Wednesday morning, September 29. The weather bureau has issued a yellow alert for Mumbai, indicating heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places for tomorrow.

Accordingly, Mumbai was issued an orange alert indicating thunderstorms with lightning, gusty winds and very heavy rains today. Whereas, a yellow alert, which falls under the heavy to very heavy rain category, has been issued for tomorrow, September 29.

The neighbouring Dahanu, Palghar and Thane districts will be receiving more rainfall as compared to South Konkan districts of Raigad, Sindhudurg and Ratnagiri.

In addition, Vidarbha and Marathwada have already seen some rainfall activities today and while rainfall will continue over these areas heavy rain belts will shift over Madhya Maharashtra and the Konkan region.

Therefore, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for the Konkan region such as Palghar, Thane, Raigad, Ratnagiri, Jalgaon and Nasik, indicating a thunderstorm with lightning, gusty winds and extremely heavy rain at isolated places on Tuesday.
