The political parties are preparing for the Lok Sabha elections and at the same time, the government agencies are also working on the election on a war footing. Voters have an opportunity to register their name in the electoral roll for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. Help number for name check or name registration has been announced.


Before the announcement of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, a special new voter registration campaign will be conducted in the districts of Mumbai city and suburbs. To give more speed to this campaign, a special campaign will be conducted in association with Mumbai City and Mumbai Suburban District and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC). For this, a meeting was called at the BMC headquarters under the chairmanship of BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal. Mumbai City Collector and District Election Officer Sanjay Yadav, BEST Managing Director Vijay Singhal, Sweep Nodal Officer Farog Mukadam, Chief Election Office Sweep Coordinator, Pallavi Jadhav, senior officials of all concerned departments of civic body were present in this meeting.

In the meeting, there was a discussion about conducting a special campaign for voter registration for citizens above 18 years of age. Also, on the basis of the information available with the BMC, reaching out to the disabled voters, verifying the names of the bedridden citizens in the voter list by checking the available information from the health department will be done. Also, there was a detailed discussion in this meeting about special planning to increase the registration of new voters in coordination with the vice chancellors of private universities in Mumbai city and suburbs, including Mumbai University, SNDT Women's University, Arogya University and Homi Bhabha State University, which come under Mumbai city and suburban district.


The BMC Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal assured that the civic body will provide all possible support for the new voter registration campaign. These works will be done through health workers attached to the Public Health Department attached to the BMC, women self-help groups, Swachh Mumbai Prabodhan Abhiyan working organisations at the settlement level and their volunteers and civic facilities centres. Also instructions were given in the meeting that all concerned should give more priority to election work.
