A latest data revealed that more than 19,000 voters in the 18-19 years’ age group were added in the Mumbai suburban district in the recent electoral rolls.

Tejas Samel, deputy district electoral officer for Mumbai Suburban district, said that due to the special summary revision program implemented in the city, there has been a significant increase in the number of new voters in the voter list of the district.

He made these statements while speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, January 24, after the final electoral rolls before the coming Lok Sabha elections. It was published earlier this week.

Prior to this, a special brief review program was organised from October 27, 2023 to January 23, 2024. Besides, door-to-door survey campaign were conducted in the state for updating the electoral rolls in view of the upcoming parliamentary and assembly elections in the state from July to August 2023.

The number of voters in the age group 18-19 went up by 19,360, which was a sizable rise. Also, there has been an increase of 25, 232 voters in the age group of 20 to 29.

The total increase in voters in Mumbai suburban district is 26,629. With this rise, the total number of voters in the suburban district has reached 72,17,308.

There are 38,88,603 male voters, 33,27,905 women voters and 800 Transgenders. As many as 14,113 voters are in the disabled category.

During the updating process, officials found 14,078 entries having similar photos and the names of 4,553 voters were deleted after scrutiny. In this survey, the process of removing names of dead voters, permanent migrant voters was also done. These names have been legally excluded after door-to-door visits, sending notices to the concerned voters and thorough investigation.

There are a total of 7,353 polling stations in the district. To facilitate the mobility of disabled voters in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, arrangements have been made to bring all the polling stations to the ground floor. Also, to increase the voting percentage, polling centers have been set up in 17 residential complexes in Mumbai suburban district.

At least 50 to 60 more polling stations will be built in this manner in residential complexes.
