As the COVID-19 cases have seen a significant drop, the Indian Railways have decided to now start providing facilities like blankets, linen, and curtain in the air-conditioned coaches of long-distance trains.

These services were banned since 2020, after the coronavirus outbreak, as a part of COVID-19 management protocol.

Releasing a statement, the railways said that in view of pandemic, standard operating protocol (SOP) for movement of passengers by trains was issued which imposed the restriction on linen, blankets, and curtains inside trains. However, railways have now decided to withdraw the above restriction with regard to the supply of linen, blankets, and curtains inside the train with immediate effect and the same may be provided as per applicability during pre-COVID period.

The statement further mentioned that the passengers will not have to pay extra charges as the cost of these services has already been factored in fares for AC berths. Though, passengers of Garib rath and those travelling in sleeper class of Duranto express can avail facilities of blanket and linen by paying INR 25 each.

Meanwhile, recently, in a relief for the Central Railways (CR) commuters, they will soon be able to monitor live locations of local trains on the Yatri App. The app, which was launched last year by the Mumbai Division, will benefit the lakhs of commuters. Moreover, as per reports, over a lakh people had downloaded the app soon after its launch.
