A private school in Maharashtra has received a notice from the Kalyan Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC) after parents complained about restrictions on wearing cultural and religious symbols.
The notice was issued on Tuesday, September 30, following reports that the school had barred students from wearing items such as bangles, rakhis, sacred threads, and marks like tilak or tikli on their foreheads.
The controversy began when several parents accused the school of removing tilak from students’ foreheads by force. They also claimed that children were threatened with punishment if they wore these symbols. Some parents further alleged that students faced physical reprimands over the matter.
After this, parents approached local political party representatives. These officials then reported the issue to the education department of the KDMC.
As per reports, the department acted quickly after receiving the complaints. A notice was sent to the school, asking for an explanation on the strict rules and the alleged punishments given to students.
The school administration released a statement in response. It said the institution had not issued any directive resembling a fatwa. It added that student safety was the highest priority. The administration also highlighted its focus on education and secular values.
The statement further said the school works to maintain harmony among students, parents, teachers, and management. It reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and balanced environment for children.
