Mumbai Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar on Wednesday, October 11, announced that plans are afoot to convert a portion of the land parcel that houses Mahalaxmi Race Course into an amusement park.
This is the first time a proposal of having the Race Course along with an amusement park is being floated by the administration.
At present, the Race Course is accessible exclusively for club members and racing enthusiasts. However, a portion of the land parcel could be opened for common citizens where we can set up an amusement park facility for people. This land is spread across a huge area and the Race Course can coexist with the park.
The land is spread across 8.5 lakh square metres, of which 2.5 square metres is owned by the civic body, while the remaining portion is owned by the state government.
In addition to this, the state government is considering the construction of a subway from the racecourse to the coastal road reclamation to ease traffic movement.
During a press conference, he also mentioned that many such projects are at the implementation stage for the betterment of Mumbai.
The Mahalaxmi Race Course has been in the limelight since January this year after the civic body re-floated its decision to set up a theme park there by relocating the Race Course.
