An important news has come out for lakhs of ration card holders of the state. The state government has deactivated 3 lakh 33 thousand ration cards and the distribution of grains to these card holders has been stopped immediately. This action has been taken against those suspicious ration card holders who were not getting ration for the last six months. This has now cleared the way for many eligible and needy families to get ration.
Confusion about which ration card?
According to the latest report of the Food and Civil Supplies Department, about 3.33 lakh ration card holders have not been able to avail ration for more than six months. This raised doubts about the authenticity of these card holders. The following things became clear during the inspection
Ration cards still exist in the names of the dead
Families who have migrated or moved elsewhere have not been registered. Ration cards obtained on the basis of some fake information have also been cancelled.
Government action and objective
Taking all this seriously, the state government has immediately stopped the ration distribution on such inactive ration cards and cancelled them. The main objective behind this is to reach out to the genuine needy citizens and provide benefits to the eligible families who are on the waiting list.

City Statistics
Pune city alone has 8.73 lakh ration card holders. Since it was observed that a large number of ration cards were not being used, the state government has issued orders to stop the distribution of such cards and give them to families on the waiting list.
