On Monday, the Maharashtra bandh called by the MVA government impacted Navi Mumbai with the shutting down of the wholesale Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) markets, highlighted reports. In addition to this, shops and other establishments in the vicinity were also closed with leaders from the MVA claiming a complete bandh in Navi Mumbai, stated accounts.

Based on the report by the Hindustan Times, Vithal More the Navi Mumbai Shiv Sena leader elaborated that they have planned the bandh together but did not know about any rally, adding that they didn’t think it was important since business and traders have cooperated with the bandh and decided to close their shops to support it.

The account further mentioned that buses from the Navi Mumbai Municipal Transport weren’t on the roads, but autorickshaws were functioning normally. The effect of the bandh could be seen in areas such as Panvel and Uran. It stated that Mahendra Gharat, Congress leader and Prashant Patil NCP leader were spearheading the call for the bandh.

Leaders from the MVA then held a joint meeting in Vashi’s, Shivaji Chowk in the evening to show their gratitude to the businesses for their support. The narrative also claims that APMC traders alleged that they were compelled to close their shops as local MVA leaders kept making rounds of the market and threatened them.

Ramchandra Gharat BJP Navi Mumbai chief was of the opinion that the call for the bandh was the government’s way of diverting attention from the raid on the family of Sharad Pawar by the government, adding that they condemned this bandh that caused issues for the locals.
