Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde visited the Thane-Nashik Highway area on Sunday, 30 July, responding to criticism of traffic jams caused by potholes. During the visit, he instructed officials to expedite the ongoing eight-lane road project up to Padgha and immediately apply mastic to the potholes.

Accompanied by district collectors and representatives from MMRDA, MSRDC, National Highways, and the Public Works Department, the Chief Minister toured the Kharegaon-Padgha and Khadvali-Phata roads on the Thane-Nashik route.

He emphasised the importance of erecting height barriers promptly to prevent large cars from turning at locations where people cross the road to reach the village. To facilitate the movement of small cars and ambulances, Shinde also directed motorists to keep large trucks on the left side of the road.

Later, Chief Minister Shinde contacted BMC commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, giving explicit instructions to fill the potholes on the roads in Mumbai immediately. He urged the commissioner to take action and halt any road repairs on Sundays.

Additionally, the guardian minister, Mangal Prabhat Lodha, made multiple visits. He instructed workers to utilise the latest technology to concrete all roads in the Mumbai suburbs within the next two years.

However, not everyone was convinced by the Chief Minister's actions. NCP spokesperson Clyde Crasto, in a report, questioned the timing of the visit, wondering whether it was too late to address the issue effectively. Crasto demanded specifics on the actions taken against the authorities responsible for the delay in resolving the pothole problem.
