As unseasonal rains wreaked havoc across the state in the last week, the Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has scheduled a meeting on Monday, April 10, to discuss the 'agrarian crisis'.
This development comes as unseasonal rains lashed parts of Maharashtra causing heavy damage and deaths. However, it is not the first incident of unseasonal rains this time.
The review meeting, slated to be held at Sahyadri Guest House in Mumbai, will not be attended by Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis as he is visiting Nagpur and Amravati.
However, while speaking to reporters, Fadnavis shared: "We have given the orders to assess the damage to crops caused due to unseasonal rains in the state. We have received preliminary information about the extent of the damage."
CM Shinde would also discuss the remedial measures and the issue of compensation to the farmers after crop damages.
Besides, Maharashtra BJP chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule would visit Malegaon, Satana and Devla to review the damages caused by the rains. He will also talk to the farmers about it.
The unseasonal rains affected mango, kokam, cashew crop, onion, wheat, grapes and java plum. Crops like wheat, gram, maize, banana, and tomato suffered massive damage, reports stated.
For those unversed, last month also the farmers suffered losses after unseasonal rain lashed the Nashik district of Maharashtra.
Meanwhile, in Maharashtra's Akola, due to stormy wind and rain, a tree fell on a tin shed of Babaji Maharaj Temple premises killing seven people and injuring 23.
