Officials from Palghar, in the evening on Thursday, June 17, shared an update stating that over 10 workers were injured in the fire which broke out at a firecracker factory, in the afternoon.

Sharing more information, Vinod Nikole, a CPI(M) MLA from Dahanu, said the reason for the fire could be the welding work, which was being carried out at the factory, despite the workers being warned about the inflammable products present inside. Local residents informed them regarding the crackers, however, they ignored the same, which eventually led to the incident.

Officials confirmed that Vishal Fireworks had been operational for over two decades and more than 100 workers were present on the day of the incident. The fire was doused in three hours using two fire engines, reported Hindustan Times. Rescue teams were informed about the same at 10.30 am, where a few workers escaped from the factory immediately. Some sustained injuries and were taken to Dahanu's Cottage Hospital for further treatment.

The fire was massive and the blast was quite loud, the officials said, and it was heard several kilometres away too.

The city also experienced heavy rainfall and strong winds on Thursday which affected the rescue operation. Information regarding the actual cause, damages and other aspects are yet to be released.

A few days back, another fire incident was reported when two heavy vehicles, an oil tanker and truck, rammed into each other near Palghar, on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway. Rescue teams rushed to the spot and took two hours to douse the fire.
