A massive fire broke out in a chawl in Machhimar Nagar area of Cuffe Parade area in South Mumbai at around 4 am today (October 20). A 15-year-old boy has died in the fire. Three others have been seriously injured. The injured have been admitted to the nearby St. George's Hospital, where one of them is in critical condition.

A fire broke out in a chawl on Capt Prakash Pethe Road in the Cuffe Parade area this morning. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) fire brigade reached the spot as soon as the information about the fire was received. The fire was extinguished by 4.35 am. The fire broke out on the upper floor of a 1+1 house in the Chawl. Within minutes, the fire spread to several other houses in the chawl, but firefighters quickly reached the scene and brought the fire under control in just a few minutes. However, one child died in this accident, while three others were injured.

What was the cause of the fire?

It was initially suspected that the fire was caused by fireworks. However, after preliminary investigation, it was said that the fire may have been caused by a short circuit.

The police and fire department are investigating the matter. The real cause of the fire will be revealed after the investigation. However, the fire incident has created an atmosphere of fear among the people of the said chawl. The incident has also created a stir in the surrounding areas including the Cuff Parade.
